Interested local youth (18-25 yrs) from the selected 11 cities – Aligarh, Varanasi, Dehradun, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, New Delhi, Patna, Gorakhpur, Allahabad and Ranchi can apply either through forms available at their city’s Dainik Jagran office or log on to djyp.co.in and apply online. If shortlisted, you will be called for selection process for your city.
Like the members of the national parliament, the city parliamentarians will sit thrice a year(Monsoon session, Winter session, Budget session) and discuss bills and issues relevant to their city and collectively find solutions. To aid this process, we will facilitate knowledge building around working of the parliamentary governance and collaboration with key stakeholders such as city authorities, academicians, NGOs and other concerned citizens.
In between, the Youth Parliamentarians will stay connected with to the program though online modules consisting of learning materials as well as assignments. Selected Youth Parliamentarians shall get an opportunity to form teams and attempt to address city civic issues.
Jagran Youth Parliament is an 8 month program (August-March) with sessions to be attended thrice a year – August/September, November and January/February for a period of four days each.
Any citizen of India in the bracket of 18-25 years, NOT a member of any religious or political organization and NOT found guilty by a court, is eligible for the program. In case a candidate is found guilty of violating the eligibility criteria, his/her membership shall be immediately terminated.
The program is completely free for all participants.
In addition to gaining an in-depth understanding of the constitution and the working of parliamentary democracy, performing Youth Parliamentarians shall get to engage as summer interns with MPs, MLAs, Bureaucrats, Media, Development sector and civil society organizations. The experience of Youth Parliamentarians shall be certified and a comprehensive report on individual performance shared with them.
